Hey everyone! My name is Kristen, I'm 21, I'm from Ohiiiio. I just made a new journal on here, I'm gonna be writing all about singing & just stuff that goes on with it. I've had another journal for about 4 years on here but I think it's time for a new one lol.

I've been singing since I could talk, not that that really means that I'm good at it or anything haha. But I'm just obsessed with singing. I desperately want to be in a band or just do SOMETHING. I have a couple things in the works but people are telling me to put myself out there more, even on the internet because it's worked wonders for other people before lol. So I'm on youtube, here, and myspace. I'd love to talk to new people & other singers & stuff, so add me! haha.

I'll put a video behind the cut of me singing if you guys are curious. There are a bunch of other videos & youtube & myspace too. :o) bye!

whitefalsetto i've been singing about 5 months now. i have breathing down, but my pitch just isn't coming together. some days it feels like it's gotten better and but other days not at all. i sing 14 notes chromatically and then sing every interval forwards and backwards up to an octave. then i sing major arpeggions up and down and minor arpeggios up and down. after 5 months of this, an hour or more a day, my pitch still hasn't gotten good enough to sing ANY song! this is just making me depressed, i feel like i'll never learn to sing at this point. how can i improve my pitch in ways that i'm not doing already?

whitefalsetto Hey there, it's me again. Had a few questions for you all. I'm looking for answers from personal experience, not out of a book. Thanks in advance for the replies.

1)How long were you singing before you could completely in tune?

2)How often do you practice a day? Do you skip days where you don't practice at all?

3)How long, in your experience, is the most you should practice a day?

I'm looking for responses from all sorts of people, the highly techinical singers to the garage guys who just go. Thanks.

[Xposted to several communities, sorry if you get this multiple times.]

whitefalsetto Greetings everybody. I have a problem and was hoping somebody out there might help me out.

Basically, I'm getting very frustrated with my lack of progress. The first thing I want to do is really define my pitch. It's gotten better but I still sing out of tune a bit, enough for it to be unacceptable for live performance.

So what I'm looking for here is exercises or techniques that really focus your pitch. Right now I'm playing a note on the piano, singing that note for about 5-6 seconds, then going up a half step, back to the root, then up a whole step, back to the root, then up a whole and a half, until I cover every interval for an octave. And then I do the same reversed.

Also, I've noticed my pitch is slightly better if I use full on classical technique. I hate the tone of my voice singing like this, though. Does anyone else find thier voice with full-on technique unacceptable?

I'm still very much a novice singer, only a year's experience. So I will probably be posting more. Thank you for the read and for any ideas, excercises or techniques.

[X-posted several places; sorry.]

2:06 pm - question

I have horrible sinus' and it's making my voice all scratchy, i want to use a cough drop, but my choir director says that cough drops have a coating on them that can permently harm your vocal cords. First question : is this true? Second question: What else can i use that won't harm my vocal cords

12:51 am - I'm New

I love to sing. I have always sung and I came up with this community, so I thought I would join. I thought I would introduce myself and say hello. My name is Julie Kunze. I go to Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Mi. I am from Dublin, Ohio though. I have the lead in our musical or opera that we are doing called Trial By Jury. Its a Gilbert and Sullivan play. Its exciting and fun! But its hard, cause I suck at acting. My dream is to try out for American Idol or something. I have tried out for Star Search though, twice. I did not make it both times. But the second time I got video taped an called back. Just not on the show. It actually takes a lot to get on there. I dream of becoming a famous singer. But anyways, I am glad to have found this community and share a little about myself. I love the title of this community singersunite. I love to read all the entries in here and learn all about all of you. Its great to talk to other singers. So I am thankful to have found this community.

10:20 am - Howdy

Hi guys!

Just joined. Glad we have a singers community!

I was offered a possible singing gig every thurs and fri. night. $150 plus tips. I sang kareoke at a christmas party last year and a co-worker's husband who manages a hotel invited me to sing in his lounge but I never really thought about it until my co-worker came up today and asked me if I'd like to check it out. HECK YEA!

I'm going to see how things are this Friday... if I like the atmosphere and piano player then I'll do it.

Thing is I'm moving to Phoenix next month so I won't be able to do it for long. But oh well! I can't pass this up!! (Maybe I'll be able to find something after I move up there as well.)

I'll post about how it goes :) Anybody in the New Orleans area let me know if you're interested in this for after mid January! Sounds like a regular thing. I'll give you guys more info once I check it out.

10:14 pm - "In Your Romantic Dream", a unreleased opera song by me.
krsmyhunnylover *Now, before the Grobanites attack me for this, I wanna dedicate this to Adele, who's hurting and she lost her mam*

--So, here we are
its only the two of us
under a bright starry sky tonight
I wanna cuddle up close to you
and whisper sweet romantic words in your heart
Now just close your eyes and
we'll fly away tonight

--Cause I wanna to be in your romantic dream
I wanna dry your eyes today
No one can't bring you down without
knowing what a true person you are
And in your romantic dream
I'll be thinking for you
Just close your eyes and sleep somberly tonight

--For this is your confession
When we stand all alone
And when the timings right
lift your romantic voice to the night
there is something romantic in the air tonight
Ohh, how I long
to pulse your love through your emotions
You don't have to be afraid nor be shy
Cause I am your fairy prince tonight

--And in your romantic dream
I still love your gentle whispers through my mind
Like in a summertime getaway
Cause I still wonder just how you are
And in the romantic dream
where no one bring you down
let you sing in peace tonight
and forever you will fly on for our lives

--Heaven, just imagine if all this was a fairytale come true?
How you long to live in utter happiness that
never fades away
I hope you live your life as you imagine it
And watch your spirit soar above the angry skies
And when you come down for a minute
And you'll let me love you forever without end?

--Cause I wanna be in your romantic dream
let me dry your eyes tonight
and no one would never bring your hopes down
without knowing what a true person you are
And in your romantic dream
We'll stand forever in the moonlight
And just close your eyes and sleep somberly tonight.

11:10 pm - "Phobia" a song by me. Remastered.
krsmyhunnylover --In the cover of his love
there is no turning back
When you feel your heart beat in a distance
you're trapped in his secrets that turn to lies
Before you know it
He comes to chase you down:

--Because its a phobia
a phobia, a phobia
that grabs a hold on you
a phobia, a phobia
That Jack the Ripper runs after you
when he has his eyes on you

--You feel like you're alone
with no one else to go
he's there, watching you
looking into your eyes
painful and darkest emotions come out
that it spins you around and around

--Cause its a phobia
that really grabs a hold on you
a phobia, phobia
when you have no one else to run to
a phobia, a phobia
when Jack the Ripper chases you down tonight
a phobia, a phobia
when he hears you scream tonight.

10:50 pm - i have a question- can anyone help? :)

sorry about the cross posting! :) i'm looking for information/sheet music/the name of a song. :) yes, i realize that sounds rather... vague :) I was looking for a recording of Mozart's Alleluia, from "Exsultate, Jubilate", and i came across it, but I also came across another piece by mozart that starts out actually saying "exsultate jubilate", and i'm not sure what it was called- though i assumed that it was just called exsultate jubilate. :) i don't know how to explain it... but i know it MUST be rather famous, as it sounded really familiar (especially the intro), so, i figured... hey, i'd give it a shot. if anyone can help, please do!

12:16 pm

My singing life has been rather slow recently, partly why I'm not posting. Once school gets going is when I'll get interesting, but during the summer its just at church. Last weekend, being Father's Day, the men didnt have to sing, so they combined my youth choir girls with the women from the adult choir, and we sang "The Gift of Love" by whoever, and also this intro and descant to "Holy, Holy, Holy." It was pretty cool, I enjoyed it. This sunday I have a solo thing for a song I've sung a ton, even in my middle school choir, called "Swing Down, Chariot." Its a solo "thing" because I'm not technically doing it alone, I'm actually joined by this Ashley girl who's voice is, I'm sorry to say, a lot weaker than mine, so when we sing you can hardly hear her, which is actually kinda good, because I hate to admit it, but she's a bit shaky when she sings, especially not with the choir. Ashley is a sweet girl and I love her and all, and I dont mean to make her sound bad, but its true. So yeah. That's my input for now. More some other time.

5:47 pm - I'm New!

Hello, my name is Kenneth and I'm new to this community. I've been singing all of my life, but I've been focusing more on it, in a professional sense, within the last two years. I am a baritone and while I was still in high school, I was the section leader for both years I was in choir. I consider singing to be a vital part of our society, as a whole.

Anyway, now that I'm here... um... hi.

4:09 pm - Woohoo!!!

Yay!! I finally found a singers community that wasnt based on some band I'd never heard of. Hi!!! I guess I could introduce myself, I'm Mindy and I live in Grapevine, Texas. I am SUCH a singing fanatic, and people say I have the talent to match up with it. I dont know if I believe them or not, but whatever! I'm really happy I found this community. Ok umm lets see. I sing soprano 1 most of the time, no, I suppose I should say all of the time. I'm in my youth choir at church and I'm going to be in Varsity Treble at my high school, whichever one I decide to go to.....long story, you can read my lj if you care that much about it. But yeah. I'm sooo glad I found you guys, keep in touch!
